The device holds onto a small electrical charge after it is turned off. Discharging the device releases this energy safely. In most everyday situations, you do not need to discharge the device at all — but in two specific scenarios, discharging is essential.

Do I Need to Discharge After Every Single Use?

No. If your device stays set up in the same spot, it will naturally discharge itself over a few hours. However, you must discharge the device in the following scenarios:

Before storing: If you are packing the device away and need to touch the cables or terminals.
For household safety: If you leave the equipment out, discharging prevents accidental static shocks to children, pets, or others who might touch the device or the mesh while you are away.

For everyday back-to-back sessions in the same spot, there is no need to discharge between uses — the device takes care of itself.

How to Discharge Safely

Important: Please wait 5 minutes after unplugging the device before discharging. This allows the bulk of the energy to subside naturally, resulting in a much smaller, quieter static spark.

Unplug the AC power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait 5 minutes.
Take the short 20-inch Discharge Cable. Hold it only by the plastic insulated handle.
Touch the Black Plug to the Black Jack (Discharge A) on the front of the unit.
While holding the black plug in place, tap the Red Plug to the Red Jack (Discharge B) on the back of the unit repeatedly until you no longer see or hear a small static spark.

Note: You do not need to fully insert the plugs; simply making metal-to-metal contact is enough.

Note: Never touch the Discharge Cable to the Output High Voltage terminal.
